Comic Books

Uncle Scrooge is a very popular Walt Disney comic book character created by Carl Barks that first appeared in Dell Four Color issue #178 in 1947.  His character was featured in the Dell Four Color issues #386, #456 and #495 before starting its own Uncle Scrooge series in 1952.  Dell, Goldkey, Whitman, Disney, Marvel, Gladstone and now Gemstone have published Uncle Scrooge under their label.

Each disk is serial numbered and your name will be printed on the disk.

(sample) Home Menu (links are disabled here)
The size of this sample image is the same as the real menu so it should display just like it will once installed on your computer.  Of course reading this from your local hard drive or even a DVD drive instead of the internet will be much...much...much...faster.

(sample) Uncle Scrooge Thumbnail Index (links are disabled here)
Each series index is similar to the one shown below.  There are indexes for several different series like Donald Duck, Walt Disney Comics and Stories, Four Color, Daisy Duck Diary, Beagle Boys vs Uncle Scrooge, Gyro Gearloose, Huey, Dewey and Louie Jr. Woodchucks, Duck Albums and others. The Uncle Scrooge index has 362 thumbnail images separated into pages of 100 each.  This example only shows 20 to conserve internet band width.  The links are disabled here.  If I counted right there are over 3,000 thumbnails in all the indexes on this version 07/08.

(sample) Uncle Scrooge Data Page (#4) (links are disabled here)
The navigation, grade, help, reprint, reading, home, and index link are disabled in this example.  The data page has a variety of information about the issue and stories contained within.  Not all thumbnail indexes have data pages.  Uncle Scrooge has the most information.  From the data page you can navigate back to the index, or home, or through the reprint links to other related data pages, or area specific help, or directly to a story.  The reprint links
(disabled here) take you to the data page for that reprinted issue or back to the original issue from the reprinted one.  Not all reprinted issues are readable so you could follow the reprint link back to an early issue in the range of 1-83 to read the story in the original form. Over time and in follow up versions these links will mature and cross over to other series.  Uncle Scrooge and Uncle Scrooge Adventures are now cross-linked in this way.  The projected values are explained on the "Value" link from the main menu.

The following images are tiny screen shots of some pages on this DVD.  I will try to describe with enough detail so you know what you will and will not be getting.

362 Uncle Scrooge Thumbnails via tabs at the top of each index page
The Uncle Scrooge index page is sub-divided (via link tabs) into 4 pages each containing up to 100 thumbnail images.  Each and every thumbnail will take you to the corresponding data page where you will find information about the issue in general, stories, publisher, date, value per grade, story data and more.  Issues 1-83 and 319-362 have links from their data pages to reading pages.  The thumbnails are numbered for easy reference.
8 Daisy Duck Diary Thumbnails
Daisy Duck Diary was published as Four Color comics under the DELL label.  These are 1954 - 1961 issues and more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Every page of each issue is readable and you will find yourself very amused with these classics.  Each Thumbnail has a data page and every data page has all the regular data plus links to the reading page.
657 Walt Disney and Comics Thumbnails via tabs at the top of each index page
Data pages with basic information about value per grade, date, publisher, and a few comments are available from every thumbnail.  No reading pages or story data on the data pages at this time.
346 Donald Duck Thumbnails via tabs at the top of each index page
No reading pages or story information but every thumbnail has a data page with value per grade, date, publisher and some extra tidbits scattered here and there.  You can read some early Donald Duck issues from the Barks page.
13 Gyro Gearloose Thumbnails
Each thumbnail has a data page and Four Color #1047 is fully readable.  I am proud to have the Carl Barks Library of Gyro Gearloose issues signed by Carl Barks.  He didn't sign #6 because he didn't draw the cover.
24 Duck Album Thumbnails
Each has a data page with values per grade and basic info but no reading pages at this time.
81 Huey, Dewey and Louie Jr. Woodchucks Thumbnails
I just finished collecting this full set and plan to expand this section in the future.  There are data pages with values and basic info for every issue.
56 Carl Barks Library of Uncle Scrooge Adventures in Color Thumbnails
No reading pages here but many of the data pages have links to the original stories.  Values, dates, publisher,  and comments are included.
54 Uncle Scrooge Adventures Thumbnails
Each has a data page with the basic list of information.  Where it applies, the reprint links will take you to the corresponding Uncle Scrooge data page.  This will probably be the next series to be activated on the Stories List.  These data pages have images of the first panel of the stories.
12 Beagle Boys vs Uncle Scrooge Thumbnails
These have complete data pages with story panel images and the first two issues are fully readable.
51 Other Issue Thumbnails
Data pages include value per grade, date, publisher and reprint data. No reading pages at this time.  The potential list of other issues is enormous but these are most directly related to Uncle Scrooge.  If you have a specific request to be added, Please let me know.  Gemstone has recently reprinted many of these specials and will be added to future versions of the USCRDVD.
41 Gladstone DuckTales, Disney's DuckTales and Disney's TaleSpin Thumbnails
No data pages or reading pages here but it is nice to be able to identify these by the covers.  Gladstone issues were published 1988-1990 and Disney's were published in 1990 and 1991.  TaleSpin issues were also published in 1991.
1300+ Four Color Thumbnails each with issue number overwritten.
No data pages or reading pages except where they cross over with the other series. Example: Four Color issue #386 is Uncle Scrooge #1 and etc.  The thumbnails are nice quality and make it easier to identify an issue with its number.  Sub-divided with tabs at the top, each page is  limit to 100 thumbnails.  I wish I had these in my collection.  Maybe some day.
37 Overstreet Price Guide Thumbnails
Each with a data page and images of the alternate issues.  I used this collection to research the historical values of early Uncle Scrooge Issues.  The values of the guides are displayed plus the first 8 Uncle Scrooge issue values are shown on the first 28 price guide data pages.
Read_me /Help
This page outlines some basic navigation and information about the USCRDVD.  Examples are provided with live links.  This might be a little confusing at first but the example links actually take you to where the link goes.  Use the browser back key here to return to the help page or simply go back through the main menu to help again.  All pages have a home link in the upper left corner.  I recommend you use this home link often as it will help acquaint you with the lay of the map of files.
Grade
This page gives the description of each grade from 1-10.  Scrolling to the bottom displays examples of some graded books.
Publisher Labels
Image examples of labels and issue original prices are listed here.
Life and Times of Uncle Scrooge McDuck
You can get to this page through the link on the home page or through the shortcut on the stories list page.  There are also links on the corresponding Uncle Scrooge data pages next to the story info. All but one recent chapter is fully readable and I highly recommend you get a set of the illustrated Life and Times issues from Gemstone.
Carl Barks
This page is to honor "The Good Duck Artist".  We all know that Carl Barks created the initial story line to Uncle Scrooge's life and he will always be remembered.  Don Rosa and so many others are leading the artistic efforts to create more Uncle Scrooge stories.  I hope to include some additional information about all those who deserve so much credit.  The stories and art just keep getting better all the time.  Thank you Carl and thank you Don Rosa and all those who are following in your footsteps.
Stories List
This page contains two lists or three columns each.  Each column is identical except for the way it is sorted.  The first column is sorted alphabetically by story title and the second column is sorted by the story code.  These are not the real story codes but more the entry codes which give you the issue number the the story number within that issue.  The entry codes are easier to use here and I hope this helps you find what you want quickly.  Many stories start with  "A" or "The" and I have left those in the title so if you can't find something double check the first word.
One Page Stories List
This list is not complete because it comes from the panel pages area of the data pages and not all data pages contain each and every one page story.  Some one page stories were initially left off the data pages so this will be addressed in future versions.  When a story is reprinted you will see it listed more than once with each associated code.  The lists make it easier to cross reference reprints among other uses.
Old Ads Page
This is a page of early ads from some old DELL issues.  Look up that first bicycle or BB gun here.  Where reading pages are available, every ad page and cover page is fully documented along with the stories.
Value Page
This is where I get wordy and tell you all about my predictions.  I should know better than mess this up with my words but I have the prerogative since I am the assembler.  I am just trying to share some ideas without boring you too much but don't worry, there are plenty of other pages to look at.
About Page
This is where I tell you why I am doing this and summarize this version.  I would like to thank Carey Furlong for helping with the testing and debugging.  I sometimes can't see the forest for the trees when buried in html and jpg images.  Together we have fixed many little issues and now think it is worthy of your scrutiny.  Enjoy!
